  1. Very important message! For some reason it seems like the low-fat part of
    the vegan message is the one that receives most disbelief and criticism. We
    do love those fats! But the science is pretty clear, and it also makes a
    lot of sense. Why would refined fat be healthy at all? Whole foods is where
    it’s at!

    1. +Javaris Jamar Jamal Javarison-Lamar oats, rice, legumes and veggies is a
      great way to go. Some people don’t do well with as much fruit as others.
      You should just try to figure out what works best for you. If that means
      you have some oil, then so be it. Many, many vegans eat oil or nuts, seeds,
      avocado, etc. daily, and are very healthy. There are multiple ways to enjoy
      a vegan diet!

    2. +Healthy Vegan Life You’re right, why would we need refined oils? They
      raise blood pressure and promote bad cholesterol and heart disease. On the
      other hand what you need are saturated fats (think coconut oil or avocado
      oil) for healthy brain function. They promote the good cholesterol, feed
      the brain so you’ll be sharp as a tack even when you’re elderly.

    3. +Healthy Vegan Life And it’s not only Dr. Esselstyn who disseminates this
      information. There are plenty of other well-educated physicians like Dr.
      McDougall, and scores more, that will point out the dangers of extracted
      oils. His bestselling book, “The Starch Solution” does not permit ANY
      extracted oils in the diet, but only the ones found in its whole form in
      whole foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, etc., and then only to use them
      sparingly.

    1. You could just listen instead of shouting ‘quack’.

      The Mediterranean studies were done on populations who lived an
      agricultural lifestyle : lots of exercise and vegetables – half a century
      ago!

      These same populations today, with TV, Internet and junk food have heart
      disease, even though they consume olive oil.

      Eliminating oil is what saved Bill Clinton’s life.

  2. All I see is anecdotal evidence. Basically since it happened to some of
    these people, that may have other factors contributed in the study that
    were not taken into account, I have to accept it as science. Please give
    the observational evidence as to how it affects the human body in a
    negative way.

  3. Thank you for sharing your religious beliefs with us sir.. Might there be
    any nutrition science to go along with them though? (Not that I’m demanding
    it. I do realize science and religion don’t really have to square with
    one-another). Good luck though to you and your ridiculous “no oils” without
    exception — or even distinction — crusade.

  4. According to Dr. Udo Erasmus, these studies are irrelevant, since they
    don’t really test the raw oil on people. It’s either damaged in processing,
    or damaged in the frying pan. If I subject an oil to drano, bleach,
    different acids, and frying, that’s not a true test of it’s value. And not
    only that, many cooking oils contribute to our societies Omega 3
    deficiency, and make our Omega 6 level insane … and a high Omega 6 level
    is associated with heart disease. So, we have to know the real reason that
    these oils are hurting us. Dr. Erasmus makes an omega blend of oil in the
    dark, with little heat, and it’s kept refrigerated after pressing to
    protect the delicate nature of Omega 3. Like you, he wouldn’t cook with it,
    though, but raw he claims it has reversed many of the diseases that are
    caused by high Omega 6, not to mention detoxifying the body, accentuating
    alertness, and giving people a lot more energy. I just found out that even
    cold pressed coconut oil is generally heated to about 370 degrees to get it
    out of the shipping vats. There’s only a few companies that make truly raw
    coconut oil (that I know of). Anyway, food for thought. Perhaps, if we
    added raw oil to our food after cooking, and were a little more conscious
    of our Omega ratios, we would all benefit tremendously. That’s Udo’s claim,
    and he’s now an old man who’s been drinking oil for more than 30 years.
    This isn’t an infomercial, but it would be a good theory to test, if it
    hasn’t been tested already. He does mention the Eskimos, who have been
    studied … they had a diet of up to 60% fat, without the heart disease and
    consequences that most societies face. Take care.

  5. Can anyone link to all the studies referenced in this presentation by the
    guy? I think it’s important that I look at all the evidence. I am dying of
    heart disease

    1. nuts have “good fat” (good oil) because the fat(oil) comes along with all
      the protein and carbs in nuts, only when you take the oil from a food dose
      it become bad, or at least thats the way i understand it.

    1. This is true. I inject myself with moderate amounts of Hepatitis C, and I
      have yet to be harmed by it. With the exception of the fact that I have
      hepatitis now. We can just ignore that though.

  6. this doctor is an idiot. Good fats are essential nutrient for human body.
    In fact grains are the ones to be avoid due to the high content of phytic
    acid.

  7. the keyword here is ALONG WITH MEAT AND DAIRY – things that there is
    substantial evidence against. It seems in these studies that there was oil
    consumption along meat and dairy. No real control group. Someone show me a
    study with plant based consumption of oil versus meat and dairy plus oil.
