TRANSCRIPT: The Pediatric Heart Team at Brenner Children's Hospital consists of six pediatric-trained cardiologists. We work very closely with two pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons as well as a nurse practitioner, and a physician assistant.
All of us on the Pediatric Heart Team are trained specially to take care of children with heart disease- both congenital and acquired.
So this means that we take care of kids that come into our office with heart murmurs and chest pain, but we also deal with significant arrhythmias and congenital heart defects. This can include things that are very severe yet fortunately fairly uncommon like hypoplastic left heart syndrome- which is a congenital heart defect that is repaired- or palliated- with three successive heart surgeries over the course of a childhood.
Taking care of these babies and children and young adults can involve the use of medicines or heart catheterization or heart surgery. But all the while, we, as the cardiologists are working really closely with the patients and their parents and their families to make sure that we provide them the best possible care so they can grow into healthy happy adults.
At Brenner Children's Hospital, we provide care that exceeds the standards of excellence.
